Activist Aisha Yesufu has publicly challenged lawyer Deji Adeyanju to present evidence supporting his allegations against Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate.
Yesufu, who has been a strong supporter of Obi, said she genuinely wants to see whatever proof Adeyanju claims to have, as it would help her and many others decide whether to continue backing the former Anambra governor.
“Barrister Deji Adeyanju has repeatedly said that he has evidence to show that Mr. Peter Obi is a fraud and that Mr. Peter Obi should sue him. This is a lawyer speaking!” she wrote online.
“As a supporter of Mr. Peter Obi, I am interested in the evidence the Barrister has.
I would not be one to give support to anyone that is fraudulent, so this case will offer me and millions of others the opportunity to know whether to continue our support or withdraw it.”
Yesufu expressed approval that the matter is heading to court rather than being settled through online arguments or harassment.
She also commended Obi for choosing to sue rather than using government power to silence his critic.
“If Mr. Peter Obi had used the machinery of the State to get Barrister Deji arrested and thrown into jail like many dictators do, then I would be leading a #FreeDejiAdeyanju campaign and calling him out. But as for now, #LetsHaveTheEvidence!” she stated.
