Alaafin of Oyo Urges Traditional Rulers to Embrace Unity, Denies Supremacy Battle with Ooni

The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, has called on traditional rulers in Nigeria to focus on unity as a path to progress and resilience against adversity.

Oba Owoade made the appeal on Wednesday during a visitation to Oke Ogun monarchs in Oyo State and stated further that unity remained essential to progress.

“Unity teaches us history that enables people in communities to weather difficult times and build a brighter future. Even in the midst of differences, states and individuals who remain united prosper,” the monarch declared.

Reminding his people of his role as custodian of Yoruba tradition and culture, the Alaafin promised to continue guarding the welfare, tradition, and cultural heritage of his people.

Replying to rumour of supremacy fight between him and Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, he debunked such claims.

“History has been kind to the Alaafin. I do not have to battle any oba for supremacy. I balance humility and royalty to cater to needs of modern-day leadership,” he clarified.

He also praised the Okere of Saki, Oba (Dr.) Khalid Oyeniyi Olabisi Oyedepo III, as a forward-thinking king whose reign is a blend of tradition, education, and service.

The Okere also stressed the Oyo-Saki historical relationship and called on Oyo people to rally behind the Alaafin and invited fellow kings to remain steadfast in their cooperation.

The Oke Ogun Zone 2 traditional rulers comprising Saki West, Saki East, Orelope, and Irepodun LGAs commended the Alaafin for his efforts toward providing peace and unity among Yoruba monarchs. They pledged to remain loyal, supportive, and dedicated to his vision of unity across Yorubaland.
