A young woman from Anambra State and her boyfriend have been caught staging her own kidnapping in an elaborate scheme to steal money from her family.

According to Linda Ikeji Blog, Police arrested 23-year-old Nmesoma Josephine Nwoye and her 24-year-old boyfriend Chibuike Ogbu after discovering they had worked together to fake her abduction.

The couple initially demanded ₦15 million in ransom money but eventually accepted ₦3 million, which the family transferred directly into Nwoye’s bank account.

State police spokesperson SP Tochukwu Ikenga announced the arrests on Saturday, explaining that intelligence work led officers to uncover the deception.

The Rapid Response Squad from Awkuzu tracked down and arrested both suspects, recovering ₦1.2 million of the stolen money during the operation.

Police Commissioner CP Orutugu expressed disappointment with the case, calling it evidence of declining moral standards.

He encouraged parents, community leaders, and religious figures to work harder at teaching young people proper values and discipline.

The Commissioner also warned other young people against similar schemes, emphasizing that law enforcement will eventually catch criminals regardless of how clever they think their plans are.
