All Progressives Congress (APC) expressed gratitude to Rivers State people for what it claimed was their tidal wave of support during the local government election of last Saturday, during which the party secured 20 chairmanship seats out of 23.
In a statement published yesterday by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the party declared that the win is proof of the trust of people in the government of President Bola Tinubu and its capacity to usher in people-oriented, transformative leadership at every level.
Morka commended APC leaders, members, and supporters in Rivers State for their commitment to the success of the party. He also commended the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) and security personnel for the provision of what he called a peaceful, transparent, and hitch-free election.
He called on the new local government leaders to turn their minds towards ensuring quality governance that would touch the lives of the people.
In response to allegations of electoral malpractice made against him by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Morka termed them as “incendiary and irresponsible,” calling Atiku’s statement an attempt to cause tension and deflect the focus from what he termed his party’s poor performance at the polls.
“We trust Rivers people to reject Atiku’s incitement to strife and instability. Our deepest gratitude remains with the electorate for their valued support. Together, we will build a stronger, more united Rivers State that works for the good of all,” Morka stated.
