Somtochukwu Maduagwu, a journalist with Arise News Channel, has died following an armed robbery at her Abuja home in the early hours of Monday, September 29, 2025.
The attack occurred around 3 a.m. at her apartment complex. Security guards on duty immediately contacted police, but no officers arrived at the scene.
Maduagwu and a security guard were seriously injured during the robbery. They were taken to Maitama District Hospital, where both died from their injuries.
Family members claim hospital staff delayed treatment, insisting on seeing identification documents before providing emergency care.
Beyond her journalism career, Maduagwu was a lawyer and former Miss Tourism Nigeria 2023. She represented the country at the Miss Tourism World pageant in China that same year.
Her colleagues at Arise News remembered her professionalism and storytelling skills. Tributes have poured in from friends, coworkers, and viewers who knew her work.
