Prominent dignitaries, among them former Vice President Atiku Abubakar; governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Otti; immediate past governor of Kaduna, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai; and national chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator David Mark, attended the church wedding of Dr. Chikamkpa Amaechi, son of the former Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, in Abuja on Saturday.
Other notable guests were former First Lady, Mrs. Patience Jonathan; wife of former Vice President Yemi Osibanjo, Mrs. Dolapo Osibanjo; and immediate past governor of Plateau, Senator Simon Lalong, among others.
The groom, Dr. Chikamkpa Amaechi, married Anita Nwabueze, after they got married traditionally in Abuja last weekend.
Officiating priest, Rev. Fr. Steve Dedua, told the couple to be patient with one another and build their marriage on God, stressing: “What God has joined together, let no man put asunder.” He also requested that they should not be part of Nigeria’s rising divorce statistics, citing a figure which placed the country 11th in the world in high divorce rates.
At the reception, Governor Otti counseled the newlyweds on conflict resolution, advising them to speak with understanding during times of disagreement.
