Spotify music streaming service has unveiled its Top 5 Female Afrobeats Artists of the Last 12 Months, and Nigerian sensation Ayra Starr is leading the pack. Spotify called her “the pop star of Afrobeats.”
Grammy-winning artist Tems was at number two, followed by American-Cameroonian singer Libianca at number three. Malian-French superstar Aya Nakamura was at number four, while British-Nigerian artist Darkoo was at number five.
Interestingly, South African rapper Tyla, the highest-ranking Afrobeats artist on the big Afrobeats awards last year, was not on the list.
Spotify also revealed its Top 5 Afrobeats Artists in Latin America, a list dominated totally by Nigerians. Rema led the way, followed by Ayra Starr, CKay, Burna Boy, and Wizkid.
