Bauchi Govt Suspends Four Senior College Officials Over Misconduct, Upholds Dismissal of Teacher

Bauchi Governor

The Bauchi State Government has suspended four senior officials of the Bill and Melinda Gates College of Health Sciences and Technology, Ningi, over alleged gross misconduct. Those affected include the Provost and Director of Education, Garba Hussaini; the Deputy Director of Administration and Human Resources and former Registrar, Haruna Babaji Umar; the Bursar, Umar Alhaji Yusuf; and the Chief Clerical Officer and Cashier, Mohammed Usman.

According to a statement issued by the Information Officer of the State Civil Service Commission (CSC), Saleh Umar, the suspensions were approved during the Commission’s plenary session held on Thursday as part of ongoing reforms aimed at sanitising the Bauchi civil service.

The CSC stated that the officers were found liable for actions that breached the Bauchi State Public Service Regulations and were interdicted to allow unhindered investigation. They are to receive 50% of their monthly salaries effective from October 28, 2025, pending the conclusion of the probe.

In a separate development, the Commission rejected an appeal filed by Mr Joshua N. Amos, a former education officer dismissed over sexual harassment allegations while serving at Government College, Azare. Amos, who sought a review through his legal representatives, had his dismissal upheld, with the CSC insisting due process was followed and maintaining that protecting children’s welfare and moral integrity remains a priority.

Meanwhile, the Commission approved the promotion of 21 officers across various cadres to higher grade levels, including librarians and executive officers.

Speaking at the session, CSC Chairman Dr Ibrahim Alhaji Muhammad reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to transparency, fairness and adherence to civil service regulations. He cautioned workers against ignorance of established rules, noting that failure to understand disciplinary procedures could lead to avoidable sanctions.
