Bauchi Police Command Leads National Ranking in Gender-Based Violence Convictions

The Bauchi State Police Command has been named as one of Nigeria’s top-performing commands in the achievement of convictions in gender-based violence (GBV) cases, and this is a testament to its commitment to bringing justice to victims.

Assistant Commissioner of Police, CID Yahaya Abdulkadir made this disclosure on the occasion of the 2025 Customer Care Services Week at the command headquarters. He clarified that heightened investigations and speedy prosecution of GBV cases have significantly improved conviction rates and discouraged perpetrators

“Our GBV unit has been the best in Nigeria in terms of prosecution and conviction,” Abdulkadir announced. “A team of Abuja investigators recently visited Bauchi to learn from us.”

He, however, lamented that reluctance on the part of some parents and guardians to cooperate is still a large issue, as they are not ready to appear in court to testify, thereby delaying or sabotaging justice for victims.

Abdulkadir also commended the Bauchi State First Lady, Hajiya Aisha Bala Mohammed, for her strenuous campaign and sustained efforts towards the fight against gender-based violence, which he said has ensured punishment of perpetrators and rehabilitation for victims.

Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, also promised improved collaboration with the judiciary to prevent political or legal interference that could ensure early release of convicted criminals.

We are working with the judiciary to ensure convicted criminals don’t return to the public unfairly,” he stated.

Aliyu thanked the stakeholders for their support and reasserted the command’s commitment to community policing and the rule of law across Bauchi State.
