Big Brother Naija Season 10 housemate Dede has recently revealed her secret battle with social anxiety, offering an explanation for her introverted and emotionally distant demeanor in the house.
She opened up about it during a heart-to-heart conversation with fellow housemate Koyin. When Dede asked Koyin if she suffers from social anxiety, she replied, no, and flipped the script on Dede, who admitted, “Yes, I do.”
Koyin, 21, was also reverberant, reassuring Dede not to worry about seeming socially clumsy, muttering, “Such is life.”
The reserved nature and disdain for physical contact of Dede especially her reluctance to give a hug to male housemates have previously cumulatively caused criticism and confusion among housemates and viewers. Tellingly, housemate Kulture once said in a diary session that Dede behaved as if she “doesn’t use the toilet,” which refers to her aloofness.
It is not the first time Dede has spoken about her challenges when it comes to interacting with people. In her initial diary session with Biggie, she portrayed herself as an introvert who “doesn’t like people,” and also rejected hugging people, citing unfamiliarity as a barrier.
Her openness is laying bare the trepidations of individuals who live with social anxiety, especially in high-pressure environments like the BBNaija house.
