Deputy Speaker, House of Representatives, Ben Kalu, has criticized Abia Governor, Alex Otti, saying his performance fails to keep pace with the humongous revenue accruing to the state in his era.
Speaking to All Progressives Congress (APC) members and his followers at Umuahia, Kalu conceded that there was achievement but not up to expectation given the revenue boost of the state.
In his words, former governments in Abia were receiving between ₦4 billion and ₦5 billion, whereas the present state government receives between ₦38 billion and ₦40 billion.
“You cannot be getting the kind of money you are getting and yet continue to do what your predecessors used to do for less,” Kalu declared.
The member of the Bende Federal Constituency urged Governor Otti to account for the large inflows with tangible development, assuring that Abians were ready to vote for change in 2027.
“We are going to take over Abia in 2027. We want to collaborate with President Tinubu to develop our state,” he declared.
Kalu dared citizens to take advantage of the ongoing continuous voter registration exercise to get their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in advance of the next general elections.
He dismissed the allegation that the APC would rely on “federal might” to win, asserting that the party’s win would be by people’s votes.
Kalu went on to add that despite having cross-party personal relationships, as an opposition member, he is charged with keeping the government accountable.
“As much as we may be friends or even family members, as long as we belong to different parties, I am obligated to voice the voice of the masses,” he said.
