Nigeria Rejects Allegations of Targeted Killing of Christians, Calls for Facts-Based Reporting

The Nigerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, led by Ambassador Yusuf M. Tuggar, has dismissed allegations of targeted killings of Christians in the country as mischievous and an effort to pressure foreign governments—particularly the United States—into designating Nigeria a Country of Particular Concern (CPC). In its Friday, March 14 statement bearing acting spokesperson Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa’s signature, the ministry confirmed Nigeria’s persistent security challenges but asserted that such issues are not religious in nature. “Although the Federal Government acknowledges the security issues in the country, such occurrences are not religiously motivated or against any religion group,” the statement read. The ministry emphatically reiterated that insurgency and banditry, particularly in the predominantly Muslim north, are widespread criminal activities that do not focus on any religious group. These remarks come after the U.S. Congress continues to question religious freedom in Nigeria that has led to past CPC designations. In spite of this, Nigeria has consistently argued that it dismissed claims of persecution on religious grounds, citing a complex security situation that had nothing to do with discrimination based on religion. The ministry reasserted Nigeria’s status as a multireligious and multiethnic country with a rich history of peaceful coexistence, emphasizing that the government is determined to secure all citizens, irrespective of religion, ethnicity, or gender. The statement confirmed that Nigeria’s security problems are products of broader problems such as terrorism, criminality, and communal conflict—specifically between farmers and herders. Climate change, population growth, and competition for land have exacerbated the tensions, but the ministry insisted that they do not represent systematic religious persecution. To address these confrontations, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government has ramped up security operations, including: Deployment of security agents to risk areas Enhancing intelligence gathering and inter-agency cooperation Engagement of communities in peace and reconciliation building The ministry also cited recent military actions that have taken a big bite out of criminal gangs, noting that Nigeria is using a mix of military intervention and diplomacy to tackle insecurity at its roots. Conceding that conflicts over land are a leading reason for conflicts, the government has established a Ministry of Livestock Development and instituted a Special Adviser and Coordinator for Livestock Reforms to synchronize sustainable pastoral agriculture solutions. This is aimed at reducing tension among farmers and herders along lines of land use. In addition, the Nigerian government also called on the international community to verify facts before making statements that could create tensions. It urged foreign partners, the media, and civil society players to avoid spreading unconfirmed reports that risk undermining national harmony. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs concluded by reiterating Nigeria’s adherence to religious tolerance and inter-faith harmony. While the government welcomes the offer of international support in addressing security issues, it resolutely rejects any attempt at misstating facts or sowing seeds of discord among Nigerians. “Nigeria remains a beacon of religious coexistence and tolerance in Africa and will continue to uphold this tradition,” the statement reaffirmed.

Osinbajo: Civil Service is Nigeria’s Engine for Progress Former Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo also spoke during the event, pointing out that an efficient civil service is critical to national development. “There is no real possibility of a nation or government moving forward if its civil service, which is the vehicle for the delivery of public goods, is weak or unproductive,” Osinbajo said. He dwelled on the importance of innovation in government, urging public servants to imagine anew, plan astutely, and execute policy efficiently. “The civil service is the key to national success not because civil servants are special, but because government is the legally accepted means of improving life for the people,” he continued. Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation: Developing Capacity for Governance The Executive Vice Chairman of the Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation, Ofovwe Aig-Imoukhuede, endorsed the foundation’s enthusiasm for developing public sector leaders to meet governance issues. “The AIG Public Leaders Programme has been a game-changer in developing civil service capacity, not just in Nigeria but throughout all of Africa,” she asserted. Tonto Dikeh Claps Back at Cubana ChiefPriest Over DNA Test Controversy

Nigerian actress Tonto Dikeh has fired back at socialite Cubana ChiefPriest after he assumed that her recent social media post was directed at him. On Wednesday, Tonto questioned why men seem to be avoiding DNA tests, a statement many linked to the ongoing paternity dispute between Cubana ChiefPriest and a Kenyan woman named Hellen. “I was under the impression that it was women who were supposed to be avoiding DNA tests—so why are men the ones running now? The irony is unreal,” she wrote in an Instagram story. Hellen has accused Cubana ChiefPriest of fathering her son and has repeatedly requested a DNA test, which he has yet to take. Feeling targeted, Cubana ChiefPriest responded on Instagram, alleging that Tonto Dikeh is the anonymous blogger behind Gistlover and claimed she was attacking him because he refused to do her a favor. In response, Tonto Dikeh took to social media in the early hours of March 6 to set the record straight. She dismissed his claims, stating she has no personal interest in his affairs and accused him of projecting his own guilt. “Let me begin with Humpty Dumpty @cubana_chiefpriest I always knew you were sl🙃w, but the extent of it remains baffling. At what point did your personal or family matters become relevant to me? I never involved you in my conversation especially one where I was addressing a blog for twisting my words and misdirecting their claims toward you. Are you upset because, out of pity, I gave your baby mama some financial assistance years ago?” She also called him out for implying she had asked him for a personal favor, clarifying that she had only reached out on behalf of a friend who was being mocked online. “And one last thing please enlighten the world on what favor I ever asked of you. Calling you on behalf of a colleague, pressured by Larritshoes’ persistent requests, is hardly a topic for discussion unless your intent is to embarrass that person. Point of correction, you never declined, you simply said you wld look into It. You didn’t help her but Can’t you see how Gods glory is radiating around this said person? With bigger and better deals to her credit?? Little people belittle people.” Tonto Dikeh also denied being the person behind Gistlover, challenging those accusing her to provide proof. “The Gistlover accusations have become tired and repetitive. If you have no course of action, then STFU. You all dance around my name like Telly tubbies, unable to sue or take your proof/ even file a proper petition with the authorities. Unless you identify as a woman b@ater, I don’t see any reason for comparison on mine or yours..” She concluded by reminding Cubana ChiefPriest of the unresolved paternity issue in Kenya, stating that she has no interest in competing with him over trivial matters. “I have no interest in your family dynamics, whether they stand on solid ground or not. But let’s not forget that on that same ‘solid rock,’ you fathered a child you’re now running from in Kenya. Boy, pleaseeee goodbye. I’m not a child competing over who has the bigger horse. I don’t need to put a label on you Nwa-Malaysia.”
