In a move that’s got everyone talking, beloved Nigerian comedian Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Ejekwu, better known as Sabinus, has taken it upon himself to fund road repairs in the Obi Nkita/Ali Agwor area of Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The popular skit maker didn’t just write a check—he was out there in the thick of it, overseeing the work himself.
A video making the rounds on X(formerly Twitter) shows Sabinus on-site, chatting with an engineer and his team as they operate machinery to grade the road and fill potholes.
It’s a hands-on effort that’s won hearts but also sparked a heated conversation online.
Nigerians are applauding Sabinus for stepping up where they feel the government has fallen short, while others are questioning the bigger picture.
One X user, @AjeboDanny, quipped, “The government will fight him oo. You dey spoil their campaign material,” poking fun at how Sabinus’s good deed might embarrass officials.
Another user, @iamurbanaira, vented frustration, saying, “Nigerians will not hold leaders accountable, instead they doing the work for them – why them no go dey continue to steal? Who is the local govt chairman?”
On the flip side, many are showering Sabinus with praise for using his success to give back. “Money is powerful and can do great things.
Getting money is very important,” @BlackUriel01 wrote, celebrating the comedian’s impact.
Meanwhile, @badablestarlove added, “That’s good of him. No be president go do everything. Make people weh get money too try to do it.”
But not everyone’s cheering without questions.
Some, like @shegzedon, wondered, “Does a citizen have the right to personally construct road in Nigeria?”
It’s a valid point that’s stirred debate about the legalities of such acts.
Still, the overwhelming vibe online is one of admiration for Sabinus, mixed with frustration at the system.
As @lamemzy put it, “Govt dey very useless chai. Are they supposed to sit back and allow a private citizen use his personal money to fix roads?”
