High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, has fixed November 12 for hearing in a N5.5 billion defamation case against the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) by two Department of State Services (DSS) agents.
Justice Halilu Yusuf adjourned Thursday’s hearing date because SERAP’s counsel, Ebun Adegboruwa (SAN), in a letter to the court informed that he had an engagement at the Court of Appeal in Lagos.
The DSS agents, Gabriel Ogunleye and Sarah John, had sued SERAP to court accusing the organisation of publishing false and damaging allegations that they illegally entered their office allegations they said pre-judiced their reputation as law-abiding security officers.
They seek N5.5 billion damages and an injunction perpetual restraining SERAP from making further defamatory comments on them.
Counsel for the claimants, Akinlolu Kehinde (SAN), received Adegboruwa’s letter and did not raise any objection to the request for adjournment.
Justice Yusuf also adjourned the case to November 12 for hearing to continue and for SERAP to enter its defence.
