Operatives of the Uyo Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have apprehended 14 suspected internet fraudsters in a coordinated operation in different parts of Akwa Ibom State.
The suspects were detained on Tuesday, August 5, 2025, in a sting operation based on actionable intelligence. This was made known on Wednesday by EFCC spokesman, Dele Ojewale, in a briefing at Uyo.
Ojewale enumerated where the arrest took place as Afaha Offot, Ikot Ntuen, Nwaniba, and on the outskirt of Abak Local Government Area.
The anti-corruption agency recovered 19 mobile phones and three computers that were believed to have been used in fake transactions, he added. “The suspects will be taken to court after investigation is concluded,” he stated.
He also called on citizens to collaborate with law enforcement agencies by informing them of suspicious individuals or activities in their neighborhoods, reaffirming that public cooperation is core to the fight against cybercrime.
