The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has received a petition from the Network Against Corruption and Trafficking (NACAT) requesting an investigation into the alleged mismanagement of N700 billion in security votes by former Akwa Ibom State Governor Emmanuel Udom.
The petition, which was also submitted to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), calls for a thorough probe into Udom’s eight-year tenure.
NACAT accused the former governor of financial mismanagement, pointing to suspicious payments such as N360 million allegedly used for “Operation Thunder” and 1,521 withdrawals totaling N1.16 billion by an individual. The petition compares Udom’s case to that of former governors Ifeanyi Okowa and Yahaya Bello, both of whom are facing corruption investigations.
