The Ilorin Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has handed over ₦104,091,162.46 to the Niger State Government following the successful recovery of unremitted tax liabilities from Kiara Rice Mills Limited, located in Kpatsuwa Village, Mokwa Local Government Area.

The official handover took place on Wednesday at the EFCC office in GRA, Ilorin, Kwara State. The recovered sum represents the company’s unpaid taxes accrued between 2021 and 2024.

The recovery followed an investigation launched in February 2025 after intelligence revealed that the multi-billion-naira company had failed to remit its full tax obligations despite operating profitably violating federal tax laws and state revenue regulations.

The EFCC’s Foreign Exchange Malpractice Section, led by Assistant Commander of EFCC II, Abubakar Koko, investigated the matter and secured full repayment of the outstanding taxes.

Speaking at the presentation ceremony, EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede, represented by the Ilorin Zonal Director, Ansalem Ozioko, reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to ensuring that public funds are duly recovered and returned to their rightful owners.

“The EFCC’s mandate is to prevent, investigate, and prosecute economic and financial crimes, recover what was stolen, and return it to the rightful owners. That is exactly what we are doing here today,” Olukoyede said.

He also called for sustained collaboration between the EFCC and the Niger State Government, stressing the importance of transparency, accountability, and integrity in governance.

Receiving the recovered funds, Alhaji Aminu Bawa, Group Head of Tax Operations at the Niger State Internal Revenue Service, commended the EFCC for its diligence and professionalism.

“On behalf of the Niger State Government, I wish to express our sincere appreciation to the Commission for this commendable recovery effort. This development will have a direct and positive impact on the lives of our people,” Bawa said, adding that the funds would be credited to the state account and used for developmental projects across Niger State.
