The EFCC has recovered and handed over a bank draft valued at N42.5 million to a 70-year-old widow and retiree, Mrs Margret Taye Odofin, who was defrauded of the said sum by her former account and investment officer, Mrs Kehinde Olawale Yusuf, an employee of a new-generation bank.
The presentation took place at the EFCC’s Kaduna Zonal Directorate, Thursday, November 2025, and was done by the Acting Director, Bawa Kaltungo, on behalf of the Commission’s Executive Chairman, Ola Olukoyede.
Mrs. Odofin had, in December 2024, petitioned the EFCC on grounds that Mrs. Yusuf lured her into investing in phony Ponzi schemes between November and December 2020, with promises of quarterly returns amounting to N1.7 million. Unknown to her, the banker had diverted the sum of N47 million from her account into several accounts without authorization before fleeing to the United Kingdom.
However, even after Yusuf had fled, the EFCC was able to trace a substantial part of the money and thereby returned N42.5 million to the victim.
An emotional Mrs. Odofin thanked the Commission, saying, “When I reported the case in the UK, they said it was a Nigerian matter and advised me to contact the EFCC. Today, God has used the Commission to wipe away my tears. I thank Mr. Olukoyede and the EFCC for restoring my faith in justice.”
Speaking at the handover, Kaltungo restated the commitment of the EFCC under the leadership of Olukoyede toward ensuring that justice was served for victims of financial crimes. “We appreciate your trust in the Commission. This recovery demonstrates our professionalism and determination to bring relief to victims of fraud,” he said.
