Eid-el-Maulud: Governors, CAN Call for Unity, Compassion and Reflection

While Muslims across Nigeria rejoiced in Eid-el-Maulud, state governors, Islamic scholars, and national institutions urged Nigerians to reflect on the timeless virtues of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) love, sacrifice, tolerance, and compassion.

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), in a message of goodwill signed by its president, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, offered warm felicitations to Muslim faithful and underscored the appeal for national reflection. CAN called on leaders of the nation to preach justice, alleviate the burdens of people, and deepen policies that foster peace and unity.

“Eid-el-Maulud affords every Nigerian the chance to contemplate humility, compassion, fairness, and loyalty to God through the Prophet. These values transcend religious denominations and point us towards the search for a harmonious society built on equality and respect for one another,” CAN said.

In the state, governors indicated that the prophet’s messages are a measuring rod for peace and building the nation.

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa State) urged Muslims to follow the virtues of peace, gentleness, humility, and selflessness of the Prophet and prayed for enduring peace and harmony for Nigeria.

Governor Chukwuma Soludo (Anambra State) labeled the celebration a reminder of the Prophet’s message of oneness, kindness, and respect for each other and vowed that his government would be inclusive.

Governor Francis Nwifuru (Ebonyi State) said the moment calls for renewed trust and reassertion of virtues such as charity, humility, and brotherhood.

Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq (Kwara State) urged Muslims to reject divisive partisanship and instead embrace unity, further saying that differences in opinions should not alienate citizens.

Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah reminded individuals of the Prophet’s eternal guide to humility, courage, compassion, and justice virtues he referred to as much needed in Nigeria today.

Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo imparted prayers and peaceful activities that promote unity and prosperity.

FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, praised Abuja residents for their peaceful determination and encouraged them to use the commemoration to solidify community harmony.

The National Orientation Agency (NOA), also in a statement by its Director-General Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, also called on Nigerians to maintain the rule of law, be forgiving, and emulate the teachings of the Prophet as a means of existing in peace.

Similarly, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, congratulated Muslims and referred to Prophet Muhammad as a classic example of discipline, honesty, and kindness. He pointed out that despite the challenges confronting Nigeria, the country could flourish if leaders and individuals adhered to these values.

Collectively, the messages focused on Eid-el-Maulud as being not just a celebration time, but a national moment of reflection on unity, empathy, justice, and peace values seen as necessary for building a stronger Nigeria.
