The immediate past governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has refuted claims of defecting to the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) or any other political party. El-Rufai, in a statement shared on his verified X page, dismissed the reports as baseless and threatened legal action against those spreading the misinformation.
“Please disregard the patent lies and rumours about my political affiliation. I have referred the lead peddlers of the fake news for further action by my lawyers,” he wrote.
One of El-Rufai’s aides, speaking on condition of anonymity, also debunked the rumors, describing them as false and the handiwork of mischief-makers. The aide clarified that the former governor had not joined the PDP or obtained any membership card, contrary to claims circulating on social media.
The rumors, which gained traction online, alleged that El-Rufai had rejoined the PDP to position himself for the 2027 presidential election. However, his camp has dismissed the reports as unfounded and urged the public to disregard them.
