Grok AI, the X (formerly Twitter) AI system, has been making headlines in Nigeria with its responses to some of the questions posed by users. Since its release in the nation, Nigerians have used the AI to verify facts and debunk lies.
Grok was also in the spotlight a few days ago in the Nigerian music scene following a blazing controversy after its followers asked it to compare the singing ability and rhythm of two of Nigeria’s biggest artists—Wizkid (Ayodeji Balogun) and Davido (David Adeleke). One of the trending questions posed to the AI was: “Between Wizkid and Davido, who sings best and has the best rhythm?”
Grok’s response immediately provoked controversy, particularly among Davido’s supporters. The AI replied that Wizkid leads both fields, describing his voice as smoother and more versatile in combining Afrobeats and R&B. It also furthered that Davivo is known for his energy and hit songs but stated his vocal range maintains itself in a “safer zone,” with some even deeming his voice “frog voice.”.
The test did not sit well with quite a few Davido supporters, triggering contentious internet discussions regarding the precision of the AI and fueling the age-old feud between the two celebrities.
