Chelsea won an enthralling 2-1 win over Liverpool at Stamford Bridge, teenage sensation Estevao completing a thrilling contest with a 95th-minute winner.
Moises Caicedo put the hosts ahead after 14 minutes, dispatching an unstoppable drive into the top corner. Liverpool came back in the second half, Cody Gakpo equalising in the 63rd minute, stabbing home after Alexander Isak’s clever touch from the cross by Dominik Szoboszlai.
In spite of a much superior second half by the guests, Chelsea finished strongly. Chelsea left their defense in tatters at the back with Benoit Badiashile and Josh Acheampong out injured, but Jamie Gittens and Estevao provided Enzo Maresca’s side with badly needed energy.
Liverpool goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, playing in place of injured Alisson, produced a series of crucial saves one of them another thunderous effort from Caicedo before being beaten in stoppage time when Estevao struck, unleashing delirious celebrations.
Head coach Maresca was dismissed for running down the touchline to congratulate his players, as Chelsea’s late equalizer left Liverpool to suffer a third successive defeat and be second-best to Arsenal in the Premier League table.
