The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has shut down a viral claim suggesting HIV prevalence in Port Harcourt has skyrocketed to 86 percent.
In a statement posted on social media, the Ministry called the figure completely false and said it contradicts all official health data.
The Ministry made it clear that no state in Nigeria has an HIV rate even remotely close to what’s being spread online.
They also emphasized they never issued any advisory matching the viral graphic making the rounds, pointing out that the wording, design, and statistics don’t align with how the Ministry actually communicates.
Officials are urging Nigerians to ignore the misinformation and stick to trusted sources for accurate health data. That includes:
-
The National AIDS and STIs Control Programme (NASCP)
-
The National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA)
-
Official publications from the Ministry of Health
