Popular Nigerian food critic Opeyemi Famakin has responded to Davido’s just-published list of favorite Lagos restaurants—and one name, in particular, took him by surprise: Chicken Republic.
The list, which included Cali’s, Zaza, Boho, The Angels, Sora, Nook, and the beloved fast-food chain, drew mixed reactions online.
Famakin, known for his unfiltered reviews, admitted he was both surprised and oddly impressed by the inclusion of Chicken Republic.
“Chicken Republic? I mean, don’t get me wrong,” he began. “I love their rice and beans with that pepper sauce—is it the one before pack?
That is probably unbeatable among fast food meals in Nigeria. But how did Chicken Republic find its way into Davido’s head? I’d love to know what exactly he orders there.”
Famakin went on to ponder how his opinion of fast food has evolved over time.
“If you want me to give you the best fast food joint in Nigeria, I just couldn’t pick. Used to be The Place… then Mega Chicken. But after a while, they all fall off.”
In spite of his reservations, the critic ultimately saw things Davido’s way. “To be honest though—it’s Chicken Republic. Davido isn’t wrong.”
