Four Killed, 15 Injured as Suspected Cultists Attack Burial in Anambra

Cult fight

The Anambra State Police Command has launched a manhunt after suspected cultists attacked mourners during a burial ceremony at Ogidi, Idemili North LGA, killing no less than four persons and injuring about 15.

The attack occurred late on Thursday during the burial of an 18-year-old boy at Ezi Village. The attackers arrived on motorcycles and began shooting sporadically, and people fled in terror, eyewitnesses said.

A source explained that the attack was caused by cult rivalry, as it was a suspected revenge attack. Although the residents reported more than eight deaths, police confirmed four deaths.

Police Public Relations Officer DSP Tochukwu Ikenga explained that preliminary findings suggest a clash between rival cult groups. He assured the residents that investigations have begun and urged members of the public to provide useful information that will result in the arrest of the perpetrators.
