The Federal Government has announced Friday, September 5, 2025, as a public holiday to celebrate Eid-ul-Mawlid, the Muslim holiday annual commemoration of Prophet Muhammad’s birth.
The announcement came in a statement on Wednesday from Dr. Magdalene Ajani, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, speaking for Interior Minister Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
Ajani congratulated Nigerian Muslims at home and abroad on the occasion and encouraged them to follow the Prophet’s example of peace, love, humility, tolerance, and compassion.
The minister asked Nigerians of all religions to use the Eid-ul-Mawlid celebration as a chance to pray for peace, security, and stability throughout the country.
He also requested continued support for government policies designed to strengthen national unity and promote sustainable development.
“The Minister of Interior wishes Muslims a joyous and peaceful Eid-ul-Mawlid celebration.
The celebration offers us another opportunity to strengthen brotherhood, promote peaceful coexistence, and embrace the Prophet’s teachings of mutual respect and selfless service to humanity,” the statement said.
Eid-ul-Mawlid falls in the third month of the Islamic calendar, Rabi’ al-Awwal, and honors the birth of Prophet Muhammad.
Muslims mark the day with prayers, religious talks, processions, and charitable acts.
