FRSC Unveils Contactless Biometric System for Instant Driver’s Licence Issuance

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Corps Marshal, Malam Shehu Mohammed, has introduced a new contactless biometric system to be rolled out in Nigeria that will enable instant printing and issuance of driving licenses.

Mohammed revealed this on Monday in Abuja during the flag-off of the 2025 Ember Months Public Enlightenment and Sensitisation Campaign. He referred to the innovation as the beginning of an entirely digital, one-stop shop driver’s licence acquisition process in the country.

The innovation, he explained, will eliminate temporary licences from the system and eliminate delays and hiccups that had been pervasive in the national driver’s licence system.

“We are set to capture biometrics contactless, with direct printing of licenses. That would also mean no temporary license anymore and that the system would be opening a digitized one-stop-shop for the issuance of driver’s licenses,” he added.

For him, the innovation squares with the FRSC’s implementation of technology with respect to efficient, transparent, and accountable service delivery.

He also received the patronage of the Federal Government, specifically from the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF), which he stated had played a crucial part in the success of the agency.

Mohammed called on Nigerians to support the efforts of the Corps to make Nigeria’s roads safe.

The ceremony saw a live demonstration of the new system for the press following the briefing.
