In a rare and emotional interview on Flow With Korty, Nigerian rap legend Olamide spoke candidly about his life and career, allowing fans an insight into his life outside of music.
In a conversation with YouTuber Korty EO, the usually private YBNL boss opened up that even after being at the top of the game for more than a decade, stage fright has not left him. “I still get nervous before every show,” he revealed. “You cannot predict the reaction of the crowd, and that keeps me on my toes.”
Olamide gazed back at the artists who shaped his sound from Michael Jackson’s global pop to Wasiu Ayinde’s indigenous rhythms. He also discussed his life as a label executive and mentor, having jump-started the careers of Fireboy DML, Adekunle Gold, Lil Kesh, and Asake. Rather than setting up shop with scores of artists, he prefers to bet big on a chosen few, their emotional and creative growth.
When asked to describe each of his signees in one word, Olamide settled on: Fireboy “amazing,” Adekunle Gold “audacious,” Lil Kesh “adorable,” Asake “spontaneous,” and himself “peaceful.”
Things took a lighter turn during the interview as the rapper discussed his current life. Far from the image of a typical “street” artiste, Olamide revealed that he now favors meals like broccoli, sea bass, lamb chops, and even caviar to traditional fare like amala.
He also touched on family, expressing deep admiration for his Yoruba upbringing and the sacrifices made by his late parents. “I miss their voices and the lessons they taught me,” he said, adding that their guidance on humility and hard work shaped his life.
Olamide’s message throughout the interview was clear: success comes from self-belief, persistence, and staying grounded even when you’re at the top.
