Sometimes the most honest conversations happen when someone just decides to tell their truth, no filter, no pretense.
Beloved Nollywood actress, Bimbo Akintola, sat down for a heart-to-heart about something many people whisper about but rarely discuss openly: being single, successful, and 52.
Bimbo decided to tackle the question of being successful and her relationship status head-on in a recent chat with Pulse Nigeria, and her honesty was refreshing in the best way possible.
“Look, it’s not that I chose to be single,” she explained, setting the record straight. “I just haven’t met the right person yet.” And honestly?
There’s something so powerful about a woman who knows exactly what she wants and refuses to compromise just to check a box.
Here’s where her story gets really touching. Bimbo, who has roots in both Edo and Oyo states through her parents, shared that she actually thought she’d found her person once.
She’d met someone she genuinely believed was her life partner.
But life had other plans, and his unexpected passing left her heartbroken and back to square one.
Since then, she’s been honest with herself about what she needs. “I don’t know how to live a lie,” she said, and you can feel the conviction in those words.
“I want everything to be truthful – to myself and to God. I would only marry if I’m certain I could stay with that person forever.”
And get this – she’s not putting an expiration date on love. “If I find him, even at 78, why not?” Now that’s the kind of optimism and self-assurance we need to see more of!
But here’s what I love most about Bimbo’s perspective: she’s not dismissing marriage or acting like she doesn’t need anybody. She’s actually quite thoughtful about it.
While she firmly believes that marriage doesn’t define a woman’s worth (preach!), she also recognizes something many people don’t want to admit – companionship becomes even more precious as we get older.
“When you get older and maybe your children have their own lives, having a partner can make life warmer and more fulfilling,” she shared.
