A Magistrate Court in Kano has sentenced two TikTok users, Ahmad Isa and Maryam Musa, to one year in prison each for sharing videos deemed offensive to religious and moral values. The Kano State Censorship Board had earlier arrested the duo, accusing them of violating public decency through their social media posts.
During the court proceedings, the prosecutor, Garzali Maigari Bichi, charged Isa and Musa with criminal conspiracy and disseminating illicit content online. Despite pleading not guilty to the charges, the court found them guilty.
Presiding Magistrate Hadiza Muhammad Hassan handed down a one-year prison sentence but gave the convicts an option to pay a fine of ₦100,000 each. The magistrate also urged them to maintain good conduct in the future.
