Kano Police Bust Fake Officers’ Syndicate Operating Across Three States

The Kano State Police Command has crushed an organized gang of criminals who ran a syndicate of impostor police officers to extort innocent citizens of the public in Kano, Kaduna, and Katsina States.

Command Spokesman, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, relayed that this was made public in a statement on Saturday, and it was that a credible intelligence report led the command to arrest five suspects on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at approximately 1:00 p.m.

The arrested suspects are Sani Iliyasu (47), Ashiru Sule (41), Abubakar Yahaya (45), Aliyu Abbas (35), and Adamu Kalilu (45). They were arrested by operatives from the Special Intervention Squad (SIS) who found them impersonating policemen.

Collected from the suspects are a counterfeit police warrant card, handcuffs, CFA 2,500, mutilated currency notes, and blue Peugeot 406 car with number plate NSR-188-BD.

“On interrogation, the suspects owned up to the use of the counterfeit warrant card to extort innocent citizens and conduct other criminal activities in the three states,” Kiyawa added.

He added that the suspects would be charged to court as soon as investigations are finalized.

The Police Commissioner, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, reaffirmed the Command’s determination towards the protection of lives and property, and stated that the police would not tolerate any kind of impersonation or criminality in the state.

He also added and also called on the citizens to be on guard and report suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station.
