The Kwara State Government has purchased 30 new transformers for electricity in an effort to boost power supply, revitalize commercial activities, and propel sustainable economic development across the state.
Commissioner for Energy, Engr. AbdulAzeez AbdulGaniy, made the disclosure yesterday at Ilorin while receiving the second batch of 14 transformers at the headquarters of the ministry. According to him, the first batch that comprised 16 transformers was received on August 15, 2025, and that a total of 30 have been received now.
AbdulGaniy explained that the transformers are to be distributed across communities and business clusters hitherto plagued by long periods of power shortages, explaining that the intervention is a component of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s master plan to increase infrastructure and promote citizens’ welfare.
“Power is the foundation of today’s development. It enhances safety, propels small-scale businesses, boosts healthcare delivery, and provides opportunities for youth and female entrepreneurs. By addressing power shortages in our communities, we are creating a situation for growth,” the commissioner continued.
He assured that the government is working together with stakeholders like Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and the distribution companies to ensure that the new transformers are installed in the targeted areas timely.
The commissioner also appealed to beneficiary communities to claim the facilities and ensure they are not vandalized, stressing the need for collective responsibility towards progress.
Residents and owners of businesses in the state welcomed the initiative with wide arms of hope that the constant power will reduce the demand for generators, cut operational costs, and provide the window for more opportunities to invest.
AbdulGaniy reiterated that the AbdulRazaq administration is committed to embarking on projects that directly affect life, adding that increasing access to energy is the focal point of social development and economic competitiveness in Kwara State.
