Operatives of the Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Police intercepted a truck carrying yam tubers under which 127 bags of items believed to be cannabis were concealed. The operation was carried out on Friday along Babanla–Oreke–Oke-Ode road in Ifelodun Local Government Area.

The operation, which was carried out in collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser, Nigeria Forest Security Service (NFSS), and the local vigilantes, led to the arrest of two suspects: Dan-Teni Haruna and Rabiu Ibrahim, both from Saliku in Niger State’s Magama Local Government Area.

Police spokesperson Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, in a Saturday release, referred to the confiscation as a major breakthrough in the fight against illegal drug trafficking. According to her, in a related operation, three suspected kidnappers, namely Mohammed Abubakar, Hussain, and Tukur Ibrahim, were detained for their suspected role in the August 8 attack on Babanla.

Ejire-Adeyemi promised that all the suspects would be arraigned before the court upon investigation. On his part, the Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, commended the operatives for their coordination and reaffirmed the Command’s resolve to combat crime and ensure security across the state.
