Lagos Speaker Meranda Denies Resignation Rumors, Calls It Fake News

The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, has dismissed rumors suggesting she has resigned from her position. Speaking through her Chief Press Secretary, Segun Ajiboye, on Wednesday, Meranda labeled the reports as false and baseless, emphasizing that she remains fully in office and carrying out her duties.

“I’m in the office. The Speaker is in the office. I don’t know where that is coming from,” Ajiboye stated.

He further described the claims as “a lie from the pit of hell,” clarifying that no resignation has been tendered, nor is there any plan for such.

The fake resignation letter, allegedly dated February 17, 2025, has been widely circulated on social media for two days, but checks revealed it was unsigned, further casting doubt on its authenticity.

Leadership Crisis in Lagos Assembly

The Lagos State House of Assembly has been grappling with a leadership crisis since the removal of former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa by a majority of lawmakers. While tensions remain high, Meranda has assured the public that she is still firmly in charge and focused on legislative duties.
