Manchester City to Offer Rodri Major Contract Extension Amid Real Madrid Interest

Manchester City are preparing to offer midfield linchpin Rodri a lucrative new contract that would make him the second-highest-paid player at the club—just behind Erling Haaland.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the proposed deal would extend Rodri’s stay at the Etihad until 2029.

The move comes as City aim to ward off growing interest from Real Madrid, who continue to monitor the Spaniard closely.

Rodri, 29, missed a large portion of the 2024–25 season due to an ACL injury but returned late in the campaign, notably featuring in the Club World Cup.

His leadership and consistency have reportedly strengthened his case as a future club captain.

City are eager to secure Rodri’s long-term commitment before he enters the final two years of his current deal, wary of Madrid possibly making a move in 2026.

Club executives view him not only as an irreplaceable midfield anchor but also as a potential generational leader within the squad.
