Popular media personality, Dotun, has shared an important piece of advice on relationships, emphasizing the need to consider a partner’s family before committing.
In a post on his X (formerly Twitter) page, Dotun highlighted how crucial it is to gain acceptance from a partner’s family, especially those who hold influence over key decisions.
According to him, a lack of family approval can make a relationship unsustainable, as constantly defending or mediating the relationship can take an emotional toll on one’s partner.
“Before you pick a partner, look at the family first. It’s very key. If a decision-maker doesn’t like you, it’s over.
If you expect your partner to stand in the gap, they will eventually break. It’s worse if you now have a partner that has no mind of their own,” he wrote.
He also warned that when someone is seen as merely a “means to an end,” their happiness becomes secondary.
Dotun advised individuals to be accountable and ensure their decisions bring joy not only to their partner but also to their family.
“The day you drop the ball, it’s the ones who don’t like you that will take advantage,” he cautioned.
Encouraging self-care, he added, “Let your sacrifice extend to your well-being first as you extend it to others.
Your heart can be big enough to take it all, but your mind is not. It eventually destroys the heart. Family is not only what you do for them but what they do for you too.”
