Meet Captain “Rantilicious”: The Pilot Who Almost Made K1 De Ultimate a Viral Statistic

The internet loves a good drama, and when that drama involves a Fuji legend almost getting clipped by an airplane wing, you know social media is about to go wild.

Now that we know who was behind the controls during K1 De Ultimate‘s infamous airport standoff, the story just got a whole lot more interesting.

Meet Captain Oluranti Ogoyi, the ValueJet pilot who’s become an overnight sensation for all the wrong – or depending on who you ask, all the right – reasons.

Her friends call her “Rantilicious,” and after this week’s events, that nickname feels pretty fitting.

Here’s how it all went down: K1 was trying to board ValueJet Flight VK 201 to Lagos when crew members allegedly found alcohol in his thermoflask – a big no-no for airline safety.

Instead of just accepting the L and finding another way to travel, things escalated quickly.

According to airport officials, K1 refused to cooperate and even spilled alcohol on a staff member during the argument.

But here’s where it gets really crazy. Video footage shows K1 walking dangerously close to Captain Ogoyi’s aircraft as it was moving on the tarmac.

We’re talking about a moment that could have literally been a matter of life and death.

The footage is so alarming that both Captain Ogoyi and her co-pilot, First Officer Ivan Oloba, got suspended pending investigation.

Now that her identity is public, people are learning that Captain Ogoyi isn’t just any pilot. She’s got some serious credentials and connections.

Her father is former Osun Central Senator Felix Kola Ogunwale, who served from 2003 to 2007.

She’s been flying for over a decade, starting at Arik Air before moving to ValueJet.

In September 2021, she was promoted to full captain in a ceremony that had industry bigwigs in attendance, including the current NCAA Director General.

She’s also married to Isaac Ogoyi Jr., another experienced pilot who’s worked with major airlines like Arik Air, RwandAir, and now Uganda Airlines.

But social media? Well, social media is having a field day with the whole situation.

The reactions are as divided as you’d expect, with some people calling Captain Ogoyi out and others practically giving her a standing ovation.

Isaac Fayose wasn’t having any of it: “Nigeria is completely spoilt. Dear Pilot, so if Wasiu didn’t quickly move away, you would have run him over? In a normal country, both of you would have been arrested.”

But others were team Captain all the way. One user joked about her “Agbero pilot skills” and how she almost used the plane’s wings to “cut off the Wereee head.”

Another proudly declared, “Sisterhood is proud of you, my sister.”

The comment that really captures the mood came from someone who wrote: “Other women bow for him, this woman would not. Well done ma.”
