Meghan Markle is officially back on screen. After nearly eight years away from acting, the Duchess of Sussex has signed on for a cameo in the upcoming Amazon MGM Studios film Close Personal Friends.
According to Variety, Meghan will play herself in the movie, which also stars Lily Collins, Brie Larson, Jack Quaid, and Henry Golding.
Sources close to Meghan say this is more than just a quick appearance, it’s a meaningful return to something she’s passionate about.
“She has been swamped with offers but this one felt right,” an insider told The Sun. “It’s Meghan’s way of gently putting her toe back in the water and seeing how she enjoys being back on set.”
The source added that Prince Harry is fully behind the move. “Prince Harry is really supportive and just wants Meghan to do whatever brings her joy.”
Meghan has reportedly already filmed her scenes, and those on set say she’s been a natural fit.
A production source told People that she was “very relaxed and happy,” describing her as “sweet and down-to-earth.” She introduced herself to the crew and seemed right at home.
Meghan’s last acting gig was in 2017 when she left Suits, where she played paralegal Rachel Zane for seven seasons.
She stepped away from the show after her engagement to Prince Harry, trading Hollywood for royal duties in the UK.
But after stepping back from the royal family in 2020, Meghan and Harry relocated to Montecito, California, where they’ve built a quieter life on a private estate.
