Joseph Aloba, father to late artiste Ilerioluwa Aloba, otherwise known as Mohbad, has called on the Lagos State government to prosecute his daughter-in-law, Omowunmi Aloba, and others implicated in the Coroner’s Inquest into the death of the artiste.
In another letter to the Commissioner of Justice and Attorney-General, Lawal Pedro, but signed on his behalf by his lawyer, Wahab Shittu (SAN), Aloba had similarly demanded that the auxiliary nurse, Feyisayo Ogedengbe, who administered the injection to Mohbad on the eve of his death, be prosecuted.
Coroner Magistrate Taofikat Shotobi had, on 11 July 2025, ruled that Ogedengbe had acted “unlawfully and negligently” to administer an injection without a doctor’s prescription. The verdict also faulted Mohbad’s wife for opting for home treatment instead of rushing him to hospital, labeling the decision as one of the causes of his death.
In contrast with these disclosures, there have been no charges filed in more than two months after the verdict. Aloba’s attorney expressed skepticism with the inaction of the state government, asserting that the delay undermines the public’s faith in justice.
Our client, the aggrieved father who yearns for justice to be done, is appalled that, in view of the glaring indictments in the Coroner’s finding, no prosecutorial moves have been made against the persons listed since July 11, 2025,” Shittu said.
The attorney-general was requested by the lawyer to prosecute within 14 days or, alternatively, make a fiat to allow them to prosecute the case on behalf of the state as stipulated in the Lagos State Administration of Criminal Justice Law.
