What started as a routine trip to run errands turned into every woman’s worst nightmare when a stranger tried to force a young mother into his car – and the crowd watching almost let it happen.
The married mother of one thought she was safe stepping out in broad daylight, even without her phone.
But when a man pulled up asking for directions, her ordinary day took a terrifying turn that would leave her questioning everything she thought she knew about public safety.
It began innocently enough. The man claimed he needed directions, and when she couldn’t help, he started making unwanted advances.
But when she firmly rejected him, his true intentions became clear – he jumped out of his car and began trying to physically drag her inside.
Her screams for help should have brought immediate assistance. Instead, what happened next was almost as shocking as the attempted kidnapping itself.
The would-be kidnapper was clever. As people gathered around the commotion, he spun a convincing story: she was his ungrateful girlfriend who had stormed out of his car after an argument.
He claimed he had sponsored her education and she was now trying to “dump” him.
The crowd bought it completely. Instead of helping a woman being dragged toward a car against her will, they turned on her.
Bystanders actually accused her of being ungrateful and sided with her attacker, even as she desperately tried to explain what was really happening.
Just when all seemed lost, an Igbo man who had parked nearby decided to ask the right question: “What’s her name?”
The kidnapper’s lie unraveled instantly when he gave the wrong name. She quickly produced her ID card, proving he was a complete stranger.
But even then, some people in the crowd still supported the man’s story.
It wasn’t until a local yam vendor – someone who actually knew her – rushed over and confirmed her identity that the situation finally shifted.
Faced with being exposed, the would-be kidnapper jumped back into his car and fled.
The incident left the mother shaken and opened her eyes to a disturbing reality.
