N5.7bn Smart School Contract: EFCC Moves to Seize Sujimoto CEO’s Assets

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has secured a court order against Sujimoto Luxury Construction Limited’s Chief Executive Officer, Sijibomi Ogundele, for the purported failure to deliver 22 Smart Green School projects in Enugu State.

Ogundele’s company was reported to have been paid ₦5.7 billion, being 50 percent mobilization for the projects, but failed to execute them as agreed.

Ogundele will probably be required to give an account of how the money was spent under the new order. The EFCC can also ask the court to make a new order for the forfeiture of the money in his company and personal accounts, which have been frozen, and his international passport.

The besieged CEO was two weeks ago declared wanted for alleged money laundering before he reappeared online, where he accused the Enugu State Government of awarding what he described as an “underpriced” contract, proffering inflation as the reason for abandonment.

But the Enugu State Government accused him of disappearing after receiving billions, with the projects in ruins. The state asserted that joint inspections conducted with EFCC officials in May 2025 revealed “minimal or no appreciable work” on any of the 22 sites, most of which were abandoned at the foundation level.

Ogundele was also accused by the government of using “inexperienced workers and quack engineers,” and whatever little work was done was not to the required structural standards.

Now that the construction sites have been reassigned to new contractors, the EFCC reports that it will pursue asset recovery to recoup the monies allegedly diverted.
