The NDLEA in Kano State has arrested 230 suspects and seized a large quantity of illicit drugs following a sustained 30-day crackdown on major drug hubs across the state.
The State Commander, Abubakar Idris, disclosed this during a press briefing in Kano and described the operation as a major boost to the ongoing campaign against drug abuse and crime, coordinated under the Kano State Joint Taskforce for Peace Restoration and Youth Rehabilitation.
The operations were conducted jointly with personnel from the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Immigration Service, Nigeria Correctional Service, and the Department of State Services. The combined effort allowed operatives to successfully infiltrate several notorious drug hotbeds.
Targeted areas included Kofar Ruwa, Tashar Rami, Rijiyar Lemo, Kurna, Mil Tara, Zage, Dorayi Karshen Waya, Dawanau, Filin Idi, Research, Rimi Market, Zango, Kofar Mata, Kano Line and Ladanai.
Recovered items included cannabis sativa, EXOL-5, diazepam, codeine syrup, rubber solution, “suck-and-die,” and locally made weapons usually used by drug syndicates.
“This operation underlines our commitment to ridding the state of drug abuse that continues to drive such crimes as thuggery, phone snatching, and other social vices. The impact is already palpable, as residents are observing a noticeable decrease in substance abuse and attendant criminality,” Idris said.
He called on community leaders, parents, civil society groups, and the general public to work closely with security agencies, underlining that sustaining progress requires collective vigilance. Chairman of the Joint Taskforce and Commissioner for Science and Technology, Hon. Sanusi Kofar-Mata, hailed the operatives for their dedication and reaffirmed the state government’s continued support for the ongoing operations.
