Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, a 29-year-old news anchor with Arise TV, died on September 29, 2025, following an armed robbery at her Katampe apartment in Abuja.
Arise TV confirmed her death in a statement on X the same day.
Somtochukwu was set to celebrate two major milestones within two months, her wedding and 30th birthday.
According to Charlie Of Umunna on X, who quoted her cousin, the journalist fell from a three-story building during the robbery at her compound, leaving her unconscious.
When police arrived at the scene, family members begged them to rush her to the hospital. The officers reportedly said they had no fuel.
She was eventually taken to the hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
The FCT Police Command has opened an investigation into her death and says they’re working to apprehend those responsible for the robbery.
