Tennis superstar Novak Djokovic has moved his family from Belgrade, Serbia, to Athens, Greece, in a high-profile new move for the 24-time Grand Slam champion.
Djokovic’s son Stefan (10) and daughter Tara (8) have already moved into lessons at St. Lawrence College, a British private school in Athens. The family has also been spotted visiting local sports facilities, with Djokovic and his son having recently practiced together at the Kavouri Tennis Club.
The action follows Djokovic’s increased political visibility in Serbia, where he publicly supported student demonstrations after the Novi Sad railway station collapse that claimed 16 lives in December last year. While he has not directly opposed President Aleksandar Vučić himself, his stance has generated both support and criticism domestically.
Speculation about the move mounted after rumors that Djokovic was considering Golden Visa residency in Greece. His transition to Athenian existence appears abrupt, and notably, the ATP 250 tournament formerly in Belgrade will now take place in Athens between November 2–8, cementing his ties to Greece.
Earlier this year at Wimbledon, Djokovic confirmed rumors about his future by saying: “Who knows what could happen in the future.”
Now that he settles into his new environment, the international spotlight is still fixed on to how exactly this new chapter will shape both his personal life as well as pro tennis career.
