Popular clergyman Prophet Chukwuemeka Odumeje has sparked online debate after claiming that the United States isn’t better than Nigeria, despite many people’s desire to relocate abroad. During a recent sermon to his congregation, Odumeje shared his experience visiting America, saying he found life there less fulfilling than what Nigeria offers.
He emphasized that while America is often seen as the ideal destination, it lacks the warmth and community connections that Nigerians enjoy at home.
“I’ve been to that trending America. There’s no country better than our own country if we can build it,” he told his audience.
“Imagine me going to America and requesting that I be taken back home. In Nigeria you come out and greet your neighbors, in America everybody passes you with no concern.”
His comments generated mixed reactions on social media. Some users questioned his approach to ministry, while others agreed with his perspective on life abroad. Several people shared their own experiences of missing home while living overseas, with some expressing their desire to return to Nigeria and other African countries.
