Oil Workers Call Off Strike Against Dangote After Government Steps In

Dangote Refinery

The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has ended its nationwide strike against Dangote Group, bringing some much-needed relief to Nigeria’s fuel sector after things got pretty heated.

The whole mess started when Dangote allegedly stopped some of its workers from joining NUPENG. You can imagine how well that went over with the union – not well at all.

The situation quickly escalated into a full-blown strike that had everyone worried about fuel shortages across the country.

Thankfully, the Department of State Services (DSS) stepped in to play peacemaker.

They organized a big meeting with all the key players: the Labour and Finance Ministers, Dangote Group representatives, and officials from NMDPRA (the petroleum regulatory authority).

After spending hours hammering out the details, both sides managed to reach some kind of agreement. NUPENG decided to suspend the strike.
