World Trade Organization Director-General Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has praised President Bola Tinubu for stabilizing the Nigerian economy as a critical measure towards lasting progress.
Speaking to State House reporters after meeting with the President in Abuja on Thursday, Okonjo-Iweala said the administration’s reforms had “been in the right direction,” and that stability was needed before any meaningful economic growth can occur.
We think the President and his government have worked hard in stabilizing the economy and you cannot enrich an economy except if it’s stable, so they must be credited,” she said.
The WTO leader, however, emphasized the need for shifting focus towards driving economic growth and shielding the effect of recent reforms on citizens. She called for tighter social safety nets to buffer vulnerable Nigerians, alongside the creation of jobs and increased incomes.
“These are things we discussed with Mr. President,” she added.
