Okpebholo Silences Critics with Major Infrastructure Strides, Says Edo Information Commissioner

Edo State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Prince Kassim Afegbua, has said Governor Monday Okpebholo has exceeded expectations and quieted critics through extensive development projects executed across the state.

In a statement on Sunday, Afegbua noted that public concerns in Edo have shifted no longer questioning the governor’s capacity, but instead expressing curiosity about how his administration is funding the wide range of capital projects cutting across the three senatorial districts. These projects include school construction and rehabilitation, water supply upgrades, enhanced security infrastructure, and agricultural support programmes.

Afegbua also disclosed that under the former administration, EdoBEST consultants were paid N160 million monthly, even as many schools continued to deteriorate. By contrast, he said, Okpebholo has significantly increased funding for key tertiary institutions.

According to him, Ambrose Alli University, which previously received N41 million monthly, now gets N500 million, while Edo University Uzairue formerly without any state allocation now receives N250 million monthly.

“Initially underrated during the election period, the Governor is now receiving commendation for what officials describe as a humble, accountable, and promise-driven style of leadership,” Afegbua stated. He added that while opposition voices continue to criticise the administration, the evidence of progress across the state is undeniable.

“They may complain for relevance, but they cannot fault the quality or scale of the projects,” he said.

On healthcare delivery, the Commissioner revealed that the state has completed 60 new Primary Health Care Centres (PHCs) as part of its target of 146 centres across Edo. “We are not only building PHCs; we are equipping them to function effectively,” he added.
