The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, on Thursday night confirmed the death of one man from the collapse of a three-storey building in the Apapa area of Lagos.
This was according to a statement from LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, who said eight other persons were rescued alive from the debris of the building located at No. 28, Baale Alayabiagba Street, Alayabiagba community, Ajegunle, Apapa.
He said that the agency’s response teams arrived at the scene at about 11:09 a.m., following the distress alerts, and immediately activated the State’s Emergency Response Plans from Agbowa and Alausa.
He added that one adult male was recovered dead from the rubble while rescue operations were ongoing as at the time of filing this report.
Among other first responders present at the scene of the incident were officials of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Lagos State Neighbourhood Safety Corps, Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and the Nigeria Police.
