In a candid interview with CNN, acclaimed actor Djimon Hounsou has shared surprising revelations about his financial difficulties, despite his impressive achievements in Hollywood spanning more than two decades. The two-time Oscar nominee spoke openly about the challenges he continues to face in the entertainment industry, particularly regarding fair compensation.
“With two Oscar nominations and over two decades making films, I’m still struggling financially to make a living,” Hounsou revealed, highlighting the persistent disparities in Hollywood.
The accomplished actor also addressed the industry’s ongoing issues with systemic racism and representation of African talent. He shared a particularly poignant experience of being overlooked by the Academy Awards, despite previous recognition at other prestigious ceremonies.
“I was nominated for a golden bronze and got ignored by the Oscars, talking about the fact that they thought I had just come off the boats,” he said, pointing to the prejudiced attitudes he has encountered throughout his career.
